Our past guests say nice things

We bought Villa La Veleta in 2009 and began renting the house in 2010. In 2013 we completed an addition which more than doubled the size of the terrace, added a bathroom, and a sitting area on the lower level. Every year we make improvements to make the house even better.

We have had several repeat guests and referrals from past guests.

In this life it is rare indeed when something exceeds your expectations, but Villa La Veleta and Begur have done that in spades. Gorgeous morning hikes, ocean breezes, ocean side tapas to curl your toes followed by sleepy afternoons by the pool.

If you hear something in the tower or the garage don't look too hard...it is me, I could not bare to leave.

We returned from Spain last night and I wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed your home in Begur.  Fernie was incredibly gracious and the books, maps and other resources in the house were very  helpful as we planned how to spend our time in the area.  We visited Pals, Cadeques, Girona, and Figueres and enjoyed waterfront dinners in Sa Tuna and Calella de Palafrugell.  We hiked along the coast, and spent lots of time in the village of Begur exploring its shops and restaurants, as well as the Wednesday street market.  Your house was so beautiful, comfortable, well-stocked and perfectly located for all of our adventures.  We will keep Villa La Veleta in mind when we return to Spain.

Thank you Bruce and Denise for letting us stay in your home! We spent two weeks at Villa La Veleta and loved every minute of it. What a great location to explore Costa Brava by car and by foot. We easily walked into Begur every day on the footpath (10 minutes from the villa) for great meals (Juanita's, Havana, Carbo's, Tapas Begur to name a few) and/or drinks. We made the daily hike (1 mile down/1 mile up) out the back of the property to Sa Tuna to pick up Cami de Ronda trails or dip in the cool Med waters. Great small towns and beaches abound around the villa. Our favorite beach was Sa Riera and it was 7 minutes (seven!) by car from the villa. We visited Pals, Llafranc and Palafrugell - all within 15 minutes of the villa. We also visited Mas Oller, a small vineyard/winery and had a fabulous time - and you guessed it...15 minutes from the villa.

The hardest part was leaving the villa (which was immaculate upon arrival) - the expansive deck gets all day sun and the view is simply stunning - sunrise, mid-day, sunset or midnight, and it was easy to spend hours just hanging out there. Our group probably has 200 pictures from the deck alone. In stiff competition with the deck is the incredible pool - it was an absolute delight. Another all day sun spot and outfitted nicely with sun loungers and beach towels are provided. The bedrooms are all on one level with ample closet space and screens on windows/French doors to let the breezes blow through the house. The kitchen is modern and well equipped with cutlery, glasses, plates, etc. What more could you ask for? We highly recommend Villa La Veleta and hope to return to this great corner of Spain.

Your villa is a gem - stunning sunrises, walking distance to Begur and Sa Tuna, and lovely charm. Our week has flown by and we are sad to leave. Thank you for keeping such a well stocked house, kitchen, books and games, and comfortable amenities. Our kids have loved the pool and my husband and I have enjoyed our morning coffee on the deck. Everything has exceeded our expectations.

I really had to write to thank you for the opportunity to be at your home in Begur this past week. It has been fantastic, the house is wonderful, the layout is very comfortable, the decoration excellent and the equipment updated. Of course the views are incredible and we really enjoyed dining on the terrace. Every summer we usually rent in the area so I can confirm that you have it very well prepared so that the tenants feel very comfortable.

Villa La Veleta is one of the most beautiful properties we have stayed in! It is located close to town and beaches, only a short walk away. The home had plenty of space for 3 adults, and all the modern amenities you would expect. Highlights of the home include a spectacular deck to lounge, eat or barbeque, beautiful views visible through large windows in the great room, and the tower bedroom which reminded us of the Rapunzel fairytale. The town is a well preserved medieval town with amazing restaurants and many shops. We will definitely be back!

A fantastic villa with amazing views. Very spacious property with an exceptionally well stocked kitchen. Denise and family have certainly made it feel like a real home making it a great place to go for a relaxing holiday. There is plenty to see and do in the surrounding area with pretty bays nearby & the town of Begur just a 15 minute walk which has some great restaurants & plenty of history. I would definately recommend this property.

The house is beautiful, close to town while also being very peaceful. Having a sea view from most rooms is also a huge bonus. The nearby beaches are stunning, and Begur is a fantastic town. The house is very comfortable and maintained to a very high standard. The grounds are very well looked after, and overall we were very very comfortable. There really is nothing I can say except this was a perfect location for our new years holiday.

My friends and I have just returned from a week-long visit to Villa la Veleta, and I'm delighted to share a very enthusiastic review of this utterly gorgeous home and surroundings. We have rented homes all over the world, and this one is easily the most thoroughly delightful in which we have ever stayed. The house is perched on a hillside with a truly arresting panorama of miles of Mediterranean coastline. It is furnished very comfortably, from the common living areas with floor-to-ceiling views, to the three bedrooms and three bathrooms that guarantee a comfortable stay for everyone in your party. In every detail, the house feels like a home - not a rental property. We were in love from the moment we set foot in Villa la Veleta and were somewhat traumatized to have to leave!:)  In terms of the surrounding area, the house is situated within a 10-minute walk on Roman-era footpaths to the charming hilltop village of Begur, where we enjoyed true Catalan cuisine every night of the week (and many days as well!). Moving in the other direction towards the sea, Villa la Veleta is a 15-minute walk on those same footpaths to the gorgeous blue-water cove of Sa Tuna for an afternoon swim and perhaps a liter of sangria. Or you can just have the sangria... In terms of logistics, the villa could not be easier to rent. Denise, the owner, was super-responsive throughout the process, and the entire transaction can be handled via personal check, as opposed to the foreign bank wire transfers which are typical when renting overseas. During our stay, the local property manager was prompt in meeting us at the villa upon our arrival, and was always available via cellphone for any odd question we might have.  In all, Villa la Veleta is a gem. I would without question recommend this property for anyone who wants to enjoy the simple pleasures of the Costa Brava in a home and setting that will take your breath away. Just don't try to rent during the week when we return for our next visit. :)

We were two couples that rented Villa la Veleta for a one week stay, using it as a home base to explore the area. The process of obtaining information, renting the property and checking in all went very smoothly. The property itself is beautiful, very comfortable and had all the amenities we required. We also enjoyed the convenience of the walking trails to Begur and Sa Tuna along with all the other "perfect" villages and coves within driving distance. The view from the terrace and the bbq clinched a 5 star rating.

Tim B. March 2016

A fantastic, spacious property, with gorgeous pool and large garden and a to-die-for terrace overlooking Sa Tuna cove. The house was beautifully appointed, wonderfully comfortable, and with every facility one could expect. The owners and their agent in Begur were lovely people to deal with too. Our kids loved having the space to play and explore and the bedroom in the tower was in great demand (in the end they took turns!). Begur is an easy 10 minute walk away, Sa Tuna about half an hour down the hill or 5 minutes by car. The village and the beaches had a lovely calm vibe, there are loads of great restaurants nearby, and some of the best coastal walks imaginable. The weather in March was surprisingly warm - seven sunny, and fairly calm days out of the ten we were there, Overall, a great experience!

We stayed 2 weeks in the villa and we really enjoyed the gorgeous view we had from the terrace. The villa was comfortable for 2 families and the kids had lots of fun playing in the garden and jumping in the pool. The cute little town of Begur is really well known and we loved going there in the evening. There are also really nice beaches in the area, we could go to a different one everyday :-))

Jane M. August 2015

The house, the location and Begur itself all exceeded our expectations. The house was spotlessly clean, well equipped and just beautiful. The views from the kitchen, living room and huge terrace were so special. It made cooking on holiday a real pleasure looking out at the coast, sea and horizon. There was something for everyone here. Our 17 and 19 year old girls loved wandering though Begur looking at the shops, and sharing tapas. They were able to walk there easily in ten minutes on a signed path on the flat, and the torches left in the house meant we could all walk in to town for a meal at night. Begur is charming.  Our younger son loved snorkelling at Aiguafreda which was so easy to reach, and a great place to swim properly in the sea. We also walked to Sa Tuna which is indeed a steep walk from the house, but we found too that it was easy to park at the cove. We drove to a few other beaches and sampled other coast walks, but decided that Aiguafeda and Sa Tuna and the walk between were the loveliest, We loved eating on the front at Sa Tuna looking out over the cove, the fishing boats and the beautiful view. So; great house, great location, highly recommended.

Since Begur was to be home for a week we rented a house to die for. Here many of the finest, like ours, are etched on and into hilltops overlooking the green hills that plunge into the Mediterranean. The 2,000-square-foot house is set on a private half-acre, and nicely landscaped. Like most of the homes, Villa La Veleta’s dining room, living room, and kitchen are on the upper level, made all the more expansive because of a large, wraparound patio. We’ve rented many vacation homes, but none with a kitchen as well equipped. Did I mention the three bedrooms on the ground floor, two of which open onto terraces overlooking the sea? Or the home’s most singular architectural detail, a rounded stone tower atop the house with its own small bedroom? All of that at a rental rate substantially less than anything similar on the US coastline, if you could find something so matchless.

We have traveled extensively all over Spain and the islands of Majorca Ibiza Minorca over the last forty years and as you can imagine have rented a lot of properties and Villa La Veleta is by far the best. Our 6 year old grand-daughter summed it up in one word, FANTASTICO.

We have had a fantastic week at Villa La Veleta. Your villa is a wonderful combination of original charm and contemporary additions which have made our stay really comfortable. We were very impressed with how well equipped the house is! We love this area and hope to be back soon.
